Bringing a 1980s SAME Leopard 85 Back to Life:
There’s something magical about bringing a vintage tractor back to life, and that’s exactly what one proud owner of a 1980s SAME Leopard 85 did – (yes, anyone born in the 80s or earlier is definitely vintage!)
With a few tools, some know-how, and a bit of elbow grease, they tackled replacing the head gaskets and swapping out the front axle universal joints.
First up: the head gaskets. The owner grabbed 4 x Individual Head Gasket Sets and got to work. For most folks, “head gasket replacement” might sound like days of hard work – but not here!
Why We Love SAME Air-Cooled Engines…
The design of SAME’s older engines is so user friendly that mechanics can do it with their eyes closed.
Each cylinder has its own head, so it’s like working on a jigsaw puzzle that actually makes sense.
No radiator, no problems. Without a radiator or coolant, there’s no need to check and replace fluids or deal with potential issues like leaks or corrosion.
Back in the day, air-cooled engines were super popular because they were tough, dependable, and didn’t need all the extra bits and pieces like radiators and coolant.
These engines eventually died out because of the stricter emissions rules, not because they weren’t any good at getting the job done!
These old machines are built to last and with how simple they are to work on, they are easily kept running.
