The Job: A latch on its last legs in the paddock
Out in the paddock, those lower link hook latches take a fair hiding – bent, broken, rusty… you know the drill.Â
When they’re worn out or damaged, they stop doing their job properly, which can make hitching up tricky and unsafe. And when you’re flat out working, the last thing you need is downtime because of something as simple as a latch.
The Fix: Swap it out and crack on
When a worn latch comes into the shed, you’ve really got two options:
- Swap out the latch kit inside the hook for a quick, tidy, and solid fix.
- Go the whole hog – grind the old hook off and weld a new one in place.
Most of the time, the latch kit option is cheaper, cleaner, and gets the latch back in use with minimal fuss.
We’ve got CBM latch kits sitting in stock right now to suit Cat 1 & Cat 2, and we stock one to suit Cat 3.
ProPart Insights: Why link latches cop it so often
To put it simply these latches are in the thick of it – they’re constantly exposed to dirt, moisture, knocks, and the stresses of pulling heavy implements. Over time, the spring mechanisms weaken and the latch itself can bend or seize up.
A couple of good tips from the parts desk:
- Regularly check the latch fully returns to position after use – sluggish movement is the first sign it’s on the way out.
- If the latch is showing rust or damage, it’s better to replace it sooner rather than later.
