Used Parts, Proven Fit: M600 Transmission Housing in an M620

The Job: Transmission Housing Damage on a Deutz-Fahr M620

Has this ever happened to you? We got a call from a customer reporting damage to the transmission housing on a Deutz-Fahr M620. Our expert parts team did some research into the machine, pulled up the diagram, and were able to find exactly where the damage was located.

The damage was in the second housing – and once we knew what we were dealing with, we knew exactly where to look.

The Fix: Used Parts, Proven Fit

The damage was in the second housing (right side of yellow line). The damaged housing was something we had in stock – pulled from a Deutz-Fahr M600 sitting in our yard. The Deutz-Fahr M Series (M600–M650) all share the same transmission, making the M600 housing a perfect match for the M620. No modifications, no compromises, just a proven fit.

There was also damage to the 4WD output shaft. We had one out of an Agrotron 115 Mk3, which did the job perfectly.

We supplemented these used components with a new 4WD gear and clutch piston. We also supplied a full range of bearings, seals, 4WD clutch parts, and 4WD shaft parts – everything needed to bring the tractor back to new condition.

Some of the new parts we supplied were:

04416804 – Clutch Hub 27T

04436257 – 4WD Transmission Gear

0.900.2050.6 – 4WD Clutch Piston

0.900.2260.6 – Special Bearing

04438731.4 – Flywheel Damper Plate

04423196 – Rear 4WD Yoke

ProPart Insights: How to Prevent Transmission Housing Damage

Large, expensive repair? Yes. Preventable? Also yes.

What caused this damage is a 4WD shaft that hadn’t been greased. On tractors with front wheel suspension, the 4WD shaft connects the transmission to the front axle and needs to move in and out as the suspension travels. That movement relies entirely on the shaft being properly lubricated.

When it isn’t greased, the shaft seizes up instead of sliding freely. With nowhere to go, the force of the suspension pushes it back into the transmission housing, and that’s when the expensive damage happens.

If your tractor has front wheel suspension, make sure the 4WD shaft is on your greasing schedule!
